Kaithal, May 8
The residents of Barta village are an aggrieved lot as their grievances and day-to-day problems remain unresolved ever since their village was attached to Kaithal district last year.
A large numbers of men and women met the Deputy Commissioner, Sunita Verma, and handed her a memorandum singed by hundreds of residents.
Villagers, including Poonam, Shamsher, Bhartu Ram, Vakil Singh, Klaso, Prasani, Sunita, Suman, Saroj, Baljeet, Kamlesh, Vinod and others said they had requested the government to transfer their village from the jurisdiction of Jind district to Kaithal district.
They also stated that the village had a population of about 8,000 people and comprised mostly SCs and BCs families and most of them were unemployed. Their MGNREGA job cards were prepared in 2008 and were not being renewed.
The officials maintained that the village sarpanch had not completed the formalities for the registration of labourers under MGNREGA scheme. Many families were also not getting BPL ration cards because of which they were unable to get plots under the government schemes.
They said the villagers were facing difficulty in getting pensions as there was no bank branch in their village.
The villagers have demanded that their problems should be addressed by the administration on priority, so that they get benefit of the government welfare schemes.
They also demanded improvement in civic amenities in the village.
Meanwhile, the DC has directed the ADC to look into the grievances of the villagers and take appropriate steps. Later the villagers met the Additional Deputy Commissioner.
