Kamla is Kharkhoda MC chief
Sonepat, June 15
Kamla Devi, municipal councillor from Ward No. 3, was elected the new chairperson of the Kharkhoda Municipal Committee (MC) in the elections held at Kharkhoda on Thursday. She defeated Mohan Dahiya from Ward No. 4 by three votes.
In a triangular contest, Vandeep, alias Happy, was elected the vice-chairman of the committee by securing eight votes. Other contenders, Sunita, and former chairperson, Rimple Devi, got five and two votes, respectively.
However, it was an embarrassing situation for the BJP leadership when the newly elected chairperson was welcomed by MP Ramesh Kaushik, Chief Minister’s media adviser Rajiv Jain and district BJP president Dr Dharmbir Nandal with offering party’s sash. But within five minutes, the chairpersons removed the BJP’s sash, announcing that she was an Independent candidate. — OC
