CM’s city Karnal, known as the land of great warrior Raja Karan of the Mahabharta, was not selected among the top-20 smart cities of the country announced by the Union government today.

It will now have to wait for the next year to get a place in the next top-20 cities. City residents had hoped of making it to the list after Karnal was included in the 98 smart cities last year.

Gian Parkash Bhargava, a resident of Sector 7, said it was unfortunate that Karnal was not among the top-20 cities. “But we are hopeful that it we will be included in the next slot,” he said.

Navin Kharbanda, another resident, said it was a competition and they tried their best.

Commissioner Municipal Corporation Sumedha Kataria is a little disappointed, but not hopeless. She said they would try next time with a new vision and get success.
