Karnal, January 10
The Karnal police have introduced “m-Passport Police App” for the police verification of a passport applicant quickly and without any paper work.
With this, Karnal has become the first district in the state to introduce the app of the Ministry of External Affairs. “On a pilot basis, it has been introduced in Madhuban police station. By the end of next week, all police stations will have the app,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa.
At present, a beat in-charge visits the applicant’s house for address verification and fills the details in a printed form. Subsequently, the in-charge sends the details to the SP’s office through post, from where it goes to the Regional Passport Office (RPO) online.
With the introduction of the app, a beat in-charge will fill the details of the applicant in an online form and, subsequently, send the details to the SP’s office online. It will be further sent to the RPO online, he maintained.
“The app reduces half the time required for sending the police verification report to the RPO. At present, it takes 10 to 12 days,” the SP said.
He further said, “The app will fix responsibility of field officers involved in the verification process as their details will be available online. The police have purchased 20 tablets. All beat in-charges will have their username and password to operate the app.”
The beat in-charges are being trained in operating the tablets.
City residents are happy with the move. One of them, Vivek Kumar, said the app would reduce the burden of applicants as well as the police.
