The state government has given its approval to increase the MBBS seats in Bhagat Phool Singh (BPS) Government Women Medical College at Khanpur Kalan in the district.
Talking to mediapersons on the college campus today, Dr PS Gahlaut, director of the college, said that the state government had given green signal to increase the number of MBBS seats from 100 to 150.
To a question that the number of OPDs had reportedly declined to 500 in the college, Dr Gahlaut refuted the allegations and explained that in 2017, the maximum 1,828 OPDs were recorded in July and 1,491 in January.
He, however, admitted that there was some impact because of opening of new medical colleges in Panipat and Karnal. “We have put a complete ban on referring of patients by the junior resident doctors,” he said, adding that only senior resident doctors were authorised to refer the cases.
“The first batch of 2012 has passed out with one-year internship and 30 of them have joined the college as junior resident doctors,” he said and pointed out that even 50 per cent of the posts in the college were lying vacant.
Dr Gahlaut said that the state government had been urged to increase the monthly rural area allowances of MD doctors from Rs 20,000 to Rs 35,000 and non-MD doctors from Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000 on the pattern of Mewat medical college to fill the vacant posts. “Construction works of 112 new flats for doctors, a 239-bed capacity new girls hospital, a lecture theatre and four new wards have been completed,” he added.
