Kidnapped girl found dead, minor held

The police have recovered the body of a five-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped for ransom here last evening.
Vaishnavi, a resident of Boh village in the district, was kidnapped by a 16-year-old boy for ransom of Rs 20 lakh. The accused killed the girl by drowning in a water tub and then hid the body in an air cooler.
The accused, a student of Class XI, belongs to Uttar Pradesh and is the brother-in-law of a servant of the victim’s father.
Around 4.30 pm, the victim, a student of UKG, went to her uncle’s shop near their house, but did not return. Around 8.20 pm, the family received the ransom call.
The family informed the police and a search was launched. Around 12.40 am, the police recovered the body from a house which was rented by the victim’s father to his servant near their house.
Villagers said the accused accompanied them when they were searching for the girl and he also had lunch at the victim’s house before kidnapping.
Suresh Kaushik, DSP, said the accused had confessed to his crime. The accused was apprehended after the police traced the phone number from which the ransom call was made.
The boy was alone at home as his brother-in-law along with his family members had gone to Uttar Pradesh.
Superintendent of Police Abhishek Jorwal said the accused revealed that he got the idea from films. “To make quick money, he kidnapped the girl. After realising that the police have started the search, he panicked and killed the girl,” he said.
