Kurukshetra, November 15

Devotees and tourists who reach Kurukshetra to visit the holy Brahma Sarovar are all set to get a multimedia laser show. The show will be created at a cost of Rs 16 crore, for which the budget received under the Krishna circuit will be utilised.

“The Kurukshetra Development Board and the state government have been making efforts to develop Kurukshetra as a major tourist destination. Under the plan, a multimedia laser show with musical fountains will be developed. The show will be developed by the India Tourism Development Corporation. A tender has been floated and will be awarded later this month,” said Madan Mohan Chhabra, honorary secretary of the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB).

Lakhs of devotees reach Brahma Sarovar every year as it is a famous religious destination, but it lacks tourist attraction. Though tourist footfall has increased, the economy has not benefited as people do not stay overnight. A majority of tourists leave Kurukshetra by the evening. With a new show, the Tourism Department and KDB are eyeing more tourists and increase in revenue by increasing evening attractions.

“The show will be in Hindi and English as it is necessary to have the English version if you want to attract foreign tourists. We are trying to get two different shows so that variety can be provided to visitors. It will be nearly 20 minutes long,” Chhabra said.
