Bought in 2011, the car had logged just 600 km.

The police are investigating if the car was gifted to the dera chief by someone or was it procured from some other source.

Local dera volunteers told the officials that the dera chief used this vehicle for his occasional tours within the dera compound.

Deputy Commissioner Sumedha Kataria said the car had a temporary registration number and the local dera management had failed to produce any document of the vehicle. She said the car had been bought from Chandigarh in the name of Sita Rani, a resident of Sector 22-B.

The DC said they would investigate that how the car was used for six years without being registered.

Police sources said the owner of the car had been traced in Mohali and would be questioned here tomorrow.
