Message from ‘Ramayana’: Save water

Karnal: A play on the Ramayana was performed by the students of Saint Kabir Public School, Sector 8, to celebrate Dussehra. The students also made effigies of Ravana. Municipal Councillor Mukesh Arora and District Forest Officer Vijender Singh jointly chaired the function. Students gave a message to save water and environment through the play. The students pledged not to burst crackers to save the environment. Pioneer house came on top in effigy making competition. Nirmaljeet Chawla, manager of the school committee, and Gorika Bajaj, principal, highlighted the teachings of the Ramayana.

Grant of Rs 2 crore sanctioned 

Sonepat: Under the National Higher Education Campaign, the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development has sanctioned a grant of Rs 2 crore to local Hindu Girls College for infrastructure development. According to College Principal RK Gupta, this grant is provided to better graded colleges. This college has been graded A by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The grant will be utilised in improving the laboratory facilities and in modernisation of the college building. The grant will be provided in two instalments and the college has received the first instalment.

Essay writing contest held 

Yamunanagar: The science department of Mukand Lal National College, Yamunanagar, organised a district-level science quiz contest and essay writing competition. Officiating principal of the college Dr Rahul Khanna said that 16 teams from different colleges of Yamunanagar district participated in the event. He said that teams of DAV College, Yamunanagar, secured the first and second positions, MLN College, Yamunanagar, secured the third and fourth positions. The fifth position was secured by GNG College, Yamunanagar.

Quiz contest organised 

Sirsa: A quiz contest was organised at the Government National College, Sirsa, under the aegis of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Haryana. As many as 13 teams from seven colleges of Sirsa district participated in the competition. Eight of these teams were selected through a screening test. Through the quiz contest, five teams were selected that will participate in the zonal-level quiz. The team from Government National College, Sirsa, got the first prize. Prof Sham Lal and Prof Vivek Goyal were the conveners.

Students motivate people to vote 

Kaithal: Students of Indira Gandhi Mahila Maha Vidyalaya (IGMMV) participated in poster-making and slogan-writing competition to create awareness for maximum voting. The competition was held under the aegis of vote literacy club, Panchkula, and the college’s legal literacy cell. Students of Commercial Arts and Arts courses participated in large numbers. In poster-making, Poonam got first, Maya second and Shabnam third position and in slogan-writing, Chavi got first position and Jyoti second position.
