A local SHO was allegedly transferred for arresting a supporter of Sohna MLA Tejpal Tanwar for carrying illegal liquor during the recently concluded MCG elections.

Though the police insist that it was a routine transfer, the fact that Rajender Singh was the only cop who was transferred, has raised many eyebrows. Tanwar, too, has denied any involvement in the same. “I don’t even know who was transferred and why my name is being maligned by some people with vested interests. I did not speak to the CM about anybody as I support all officials committed towards their duty,” he said.

However, contrary to his claims, the police sources revealed that he had met the CM during his last visit and got Rajender Singh transferred.

Sources said on September 23, the then Baadshapur SHO Rajender Singh, following a tip-off about illegal liquor transit, had put up a naka on Sohna Road, where a Scorpio car was intercepted. While three occupants fled, he nabbed driver Prashant along with 16 bottles of whisky. He also impounded the car. An FIR was registered under Section 61-1-14 of the Excise Act at Badshahpur police station though the driver was let off on bail.

“It was after the arrest that the driver boasted of being Tanwar’s aid and Tanwar also called the SHO to let off the driver. Singh, however, asked him to speak to the CP if he had anything to say in this matter and this infuriated the MLA, who threatened to speak to the CM. This time, when he came to the city and Tanwar met him, within hours Singh was sent to the Police Lines without being given any reason. It’s not routine as this posting is followed by complaint or any lapse on official’s part. The transfer has rattled all of us, who spent day and night to ensure crime-free elections in the city,” said another SHO, a close aid of Singh.

Singh, meanwhile, refused to talk saying he was not authorised to do so.
