Slain Haryanvi singer and dancer Harshita Dahiya’s elder sister Lata today alleged that her husband Dinesh was behind the murder because she (Harshita) was the prime witness in their mother’s murder case. Harshita was shot dead on the Chamrara-Kakoda road in the Israna block of the district yesterday.

Panipat SP Rahul Sharma told The Tribune that Dinesh, a native of Karala village in Delhi, is a notorious criminal, who was involved in four murders, besides loot, dacoity and robbery cases and a rape case. He is at present lodged in the Jhajjar jail. He was recently shifted there from the Tihar jail of Delhi, he added.

“Dinesh is a notorious gangster. Twelve criminal cases have been registered against him in various police stations of Sonepat, Jind, Jhajjar and Delhi,” he said.

Lata alleged that Harshita was the prime witness in the murder case of their mother who was killed in Narela, Delhi, in 2014, he added.

Earlier, Harshita had accused Dinesh of raping her in 2013 and a case was registered against him in which her mother was a witness, he added.

“We will bring Dinesh on production warrant from the Jhajjar jail soon. He will be interrogated to know his involvement in Harshita’s murder,” said Sharma.

Though Dinesh is the main suspect in Harshita’s murder considering Lata’s statement, other angles in the case were also being investigated, he added. “We have some leads in connection with Harshita’s murder but it will be too early to comment on these,” he said.

Dr Rajeev Mann, Medical Officer at the general hospital, said during post-mortem a bullet was taken out of the chest and two from the back of the head while around seven bullet injury marks were found on the body. The body has been handed to Harshita’s sister and other relatives.

According to sources, Harshita was a supporter of the movement of the Yuva Kisan Jagriti Mission. On the invitation of the mission, she visited Chamrara village for a programme on Tuesday.

They said hours before the incident, she had uploaded a video on social media stating that she would expose the persons who were threatening to kill her.

Harshita was shot dead on Tuesday evening while she was on her way back home in a car after a programme at Chamrara village.
