A 22-year-old electrical engineering student of National Institute of Technology (NIT) was found dead at his room in a boys' hostel on Monday.
Aakash Nasir was a final-year student of BTech and hailed from Sonepat. The police authorities said a handwritten note was retrieved from the spot and its content are being analysed.
When contacted, the director of public relations at NIT stated that no official information can be shared today about the deceased as the authorities were busy with the forthcoming convocation function.
Meanwhile, the initial police investigation states that Aakash may have committed suicide with 'arranged' asphyxia.
DSP Gurmail Singh said pieces of burnt coal and other inflammable material were found in the room. But no smoke was noticed outside the room, he added.
NIT sources said the hostel room was broke opened after Aakash did not respond to repeated calls this morning.
"We found that all gaps in doors, windows and wall sealed with adhesive tapes. It is premature to comment on the cause of death but our teams are working to find if the room was made airtight with the intention to commit suicide or was it an accident," the DSP said.
He confirmed that no visible burn injury was spotted on the body.
The DSP added the scene of the crime was videographed and the case was being probed from various angles. He said the family members of the student were informed and their statement was yet to be recorded.
