Pawan Munjal, chairman, MD and CEO of Hero MotoCorp, was conferred with an honorary doctorate at the 16th convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here on Friday.
NIT Kurukshetra’s chairperson of the board of governors, Jagdish Khattar, and its director, Dr Satish Kumar, presented the degree to Munjal.
NIT Kurukshetra is Munjal’s alma mater from where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1976.
On the occasion, Munjal said that the real world outside the campus was going to be very demanding and challenging.
He urged institutes of higher education to encourage students to spend more time on live projects, learn about new global developments and trends in technology and innovations that are transforming the world today.
“While students learn the basics, let us provide them with resources in order to enable them to take risks and operate in an environment that does not limit their true potential,” said Munjal, who was also the chief guest of the convocation ceremony.
NIT director Dr Satish Kumar said during the convocation, a total of 1,353 students were awarded degrees for BTech, MTech, MBA and MCA. Also, 63 degrees of doctorate of philosophy and 67 entries of IIIT Sonepat were included.
He said the all-rounder’s title was awarded to Ashish Kumar, a student of the electrical engineering department, and Vibhuti Dembi of the electronics and communication engineering department. The prestigious “Manohar Award of Excellence” was given to Madhur (BTech).
