Kurukshetra, November 12
A 22-year-old student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) was found dead in his hostel room on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Aakash Nasir, a native of Sonepat. He was a final-year student of B Tech (electrical). The police said a handwritten note was found from the hostel room and its content were being analysed.
The director of public relations at the NIT said any information about Nasir could not be shared as the college authorities were busy in preparing for the forthcoming convocation.
The preliminary investigation brought out that Nasir may have committed suicide by strangling himself.
DSP Gurmail Singh said, “Pieces of burnt coal and other inflammable items were found from Nasir’s room. The smoke, however, did not billow out from the room.”
“We found that gaps in doors, windows and walls were sealed with adhesive tapes. It is premature to comment on the cause of death. The police are trying to find the reason for making the room airtight — was it done intentionally to commit suicide or was it an accident,” he said. — TNS
