No toll for villagers near Gharaunda

Karnal, July 3

The Bastara toll authorities have exempted the locals from paying money at the toll plaza. The toll plaza had become a bone of contention among public representatives, local commuters and the toll authorities. Residents had protested on several occasions at the plaza and incidents of altercation had also been reported, leading to the deterioration of law and order situation.

Gharaunda MLA and Hafed chairman Harvinder Kalyan had met Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar last week and also made a request to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for toll exemption for local commuters or shifting of the toll plaza out of Gharaunda block.

Karnal MP Ashwini Chopra also sent a letter to Gadkari for giving relief to thousands of commuters, who travel between Karnal and Gharaunda daily. The CM had assigned the task of resolving the toll issue to Kalyan and Karnal Range IGP Navdeep Virk.
