Old diesel, petrol vehicles banned in Sonepat

The plying of 10-year-old diesel vehicles and 15-year-old petrol vehicles has been banned in Sonepat district with immediate effect. It has been done in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court issued on April 7, 2018, and the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued on April 7, 2015, .

In a government press statement issued here on Friday, the orders were issued by Additional Deputy Commissioner Jaiveer Arya, who holds additional charge as the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA).

The orders have been issued to curb the menace of air pollution in the areas of the National Capital Region and as Sonepat is part of the NCR, the vehicles have been banned here.

Arya said the information about the exact number of the vehicles to be affected by the orders was not yet available as he had taken over his duties on Thursday.
