A special investigation team (SIT) led by Rohtak ASP Maqsood Ahmed constituted to probe the cases of OLX frauds has found that the fraudsters involved in the inter-state online racket had defrauded the residents of at least seven states across the country.
As per an official statement issued by the district police authorities late this evening, as many as 40 cases of OLX frauds pertaining to Haryana, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh have been unearthed so far.
Four persons involved in the online fraud racket have been arrested so far.
As per SIT sources, fraudsters posing as Army or paramilitary personnel put fake advertisements through the OLX app to defraud residents by taking money through Paytm and not supplying the advertised product.
A probe by the SIT probing a bunch of cases of OLX and other online frauds had zeroed in on a cluster of villages located in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan.
Investigations made by the SIT revealed that most residents of at least five villages of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan — Paadla, Hingota, Gangpuri, Kama and Toda — were involved in OLX frauds.
