Gurugram, July 13

In a major decision to curtail vehicular pollution, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today banned the plying of auto-rickshaws older than 10 years since their registration in Gurugram district. He was addressing a grievance redressal committee meeting in the city.

Khattar said that all auto-rickshaws older than 10 years shall be impounded. He emphasised the need of a regulated and safe public transport system and said that the Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, and the Gurugram traffic police would jointly prepare a policy for auto-rickshaws plying illegally without registration and carrying passengers more than the specified limit.

The Chief Minister said that all auto-rickshaws should soon have fare meters installed and Police Commissioner Mohammad Akil should oversee the work. The issue of illegal auto-rickshaws plying on roads was taken up as one of the complaints in the meeting. The Secretary, RTA-cum-ADC, Mohammad Imran Raza, claimed that the Transport Department had issued a notification for metering of the auto-rickshaws on May 30 and a tender would soon be invited.

“The RTA office has challaned 145 auto-rickshaws and impounded 50 more than 10-year-old auto-rickshaws. Besides, 5,166 auto-rickshaws have been challaned for not having the pollution under control certificate and more than 2.46 lakh challans have been issued for carrying passengers above capacity,” said Raza.

Other decisions

  • A leaving certificate issued by a school in Haryana to be considered as the proof of age for giving the benefit of old-age allowance to a person, who is under Class X pass. If the certificate is found to be wrong, action will be taken against the issuing school.
  • A citizens sanitation committee to be formed for the Municipal Corporation Gurugram area, which will coordinate with the resident welfare associations for ensuring proper cleanliness.
  • An FIR to be registered against the Gramin Dak Sevak of Khod village in the district for allegedly committing a fraud in depositing money into the bank accounts of villagers.
