More than 500 landline and broadband connections of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have gone out of order in Sirsa town due to entry of sewer contents in cable ducts.

Over 12 banks and educational institutions in the area have been affected.

As per BSNL officials, it would take over 15 days to repair the cables and the authorities would face losses worth lakhs.

Areas like RSD Colony, A-Block, B-Block and C-Block of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), Grain Market, Shiv Chowk, Multani Mohalla, Dabwali Road and Circular Road are among the worst affected areas due to the snag.

RK Verma, DGM, BSNL, Hisar, visited Sirsa and met senior officials of the district administration in this connection.

“We have lodged a formal complaint against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department with the district authorities,” said Amar Singh, Divisional Engineer of the BSNL in Sirsa.

He said the sewer lines of the PHE Department had been lying chocked for long near the RSD Colony, but the officials concerned did nothing to clean them.

KK Verma, Superintending Engineer of the PHE Department, however, contradicted Amar Singh’s allegations and said the BSNL officials were themselves to be blamed for the snag.
