The police have booked several officials of the local office of the Food and Supplies Department, including a District Food and Supplies Controller (DFSC) posted here earlier, in connection with alleged irregularities in the allocation of ration items during 2016-17.

The Director, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs, had directed the present District Food and Supplies Controller (DFSC) to lodge an FIR against the officials responsible after the scam had surfaced recently.

Seema Sharma, the then DFSC, has been mentioned in the FIR lodged at Camp police station here. At least six officials, including inspectors and sub-inspectors, and several ration depot owners in the city have also been named as accused in the case.

Seema Sharma had been transferred from here a few months back and the post is currently held by KK Goel, DFSC Faridabad, on additional basis.

A probe carried out by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Anju Chaudhary had found serious irregularities and she had recommended further inquiry to the department in April. An inquiry was also conducted by the Joint Director, Food and Civil Supplies.

The probe had been ordered in response to a complaint lodged by Ram Kishan Panchal, a local resident, at the CM window here on March 29, 2016.

Panchal had alleged indiscriminate and excess allocation of wheat and other items to ration depots holders by the officials concerned.

It was alleged that ration items were being sold in the open market illegally. The Director, Food and Civil Supplies, in his letter dated May 30 had directed the present DFSC to lodge an FIR and report back. The letter also quoted the inquiry report submitted by the Joint Director, Civil Supplies, and the probe by the ADC in this connection.

“While a case under Sections 409 and 120-B of the IPC and Section 7 and 10 of the Essential Commodities Act has been registered, the police will take further action based on the evidence and inquiry into the matter,” said Wasim Akram, SP, Palwal.

KK Goel, holding the charge of DFSC, Palwal, on additional basis, also confirmed the registration of the FIR in this regard.
