Panipat, July 31
Free Wi-Fi internet facility will be made available to passengers at the Panipat railway station soon.
Panipat will be the second railway station in the state to provide this facility after Ambala Cantt.
Station Superintendent Dheeraj Kapoor said the facility would be available on the railway station premises within a distance of nearly 50 meters.
“Technical teams of RailTel, the company providing the facility, are testing their systems installed here and the Wi-Fi facility is expected to be operational soon,” he said.
The Panipat railway station handles nearly 90 trains and 40,000 passengers everyday.
Suchitra Pradhan, spokesperson of the company, told The Tribune that the project to provide free Wi-Fi facility to the rail users was being initiated by RailTel in a joint venture with the Google.
“Out of the 400 railway stations selected for the facility throughout the country, 137 stations are already providing free Wi-Fi connectivity,” she said.
The facility would be provided soon at other railway stations, including Gurugram, Hisar, Jagadhari, Kalka, Karnal, Rewari, Rohtak and Sonepat, in the state, she added.
Panipat station would be connected with free Wi-Fi facility very soon, she added.
