Panipat, February 21
Member of Parliament (MP) Ashwani Chopra inaugurated the fifth Passport Sewa Kendra of the state at the head post office here today. Transport Minister Krishan Lal Panwar was also present.
The MP said Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had promised to open more passport sewa centres in other districts.
The Transport Minister said since Panipat was a textile hub, the opening of the passport kendra here would help both importers and exporters.
He said earlier, businessmen from the city had to visit Chandigarh, Ambala or Karnal for passport-related issues.
Sibas Kaviraj, Regional Passport Officer, said, “Passport is not only a travel document, but is an identity proof too. Local residents can now apply for the passport online.”
He said 50 passports per day would be issued from here and the limit would be increased as per the requirement. Col Sukhdev Raj, Chief Postmaster General, said the sixth passport centre would be opened in Yamunanagar on February 26.
