The Department of Secondary Education has directed all district education officers (DEOs) to remit the child welfare fund charged from school students to Haryana State Council for Child Welfare (HSCCW) without further delay.
Sources said a total fund of Rs 2.98 crore was to be paid by the DEO offices in the state on the basis of number of students enrolled as on September 30 last year. The amount should have been paid during the last academic session. As the education department offices failed to do so, the HSCCW recently communicated to the department seeking remittance of child welfare fund, added the sources.
“Taking serious note of the communication, the Education Department recently directed the DEOs to pay the HSCCW’s share of child welfare fund at the earliest. A statement of dues has been sent to the DEOs,” the sources maintained.
Jhajjar DEO Satbir Siwach informed that Rs 2 per month (Rs 24 per year) was charged as child welfare fund from every student of Classes IX to XII at government and private schools affiliated with the Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE).
“Seventy-five per cent of the total fund is paid to the HSCCW every year for conducting child welfare activities. We are calculating the exact amount due as per the students’ strength and will remit the funds soon,” said Siwach, adding that block education officers (BEOs) had been asked to send the details about students strength in their area concerned.
