In perhaps a first such move in the country, the Special Task Force (STF), headed by headed by KK Rao, Inspector General of Police, has started building a police chowki on the property of an absconding gangster.

The chowki is being built on a 450 square yard plot near Manesar highway that has an estimated value of Rs 4 crore.

The land belonging to dreaded gangster Sube Singh Gujjar was attached in February. The Gurugram police then headed by Rao decided to attach property of absconding gangsters to pressure them to surrender.

Sube Singh’s property was first to be attached as he topped the chart of notorious criminals in the state. This property was put up for auction twice, but found no bidders apparently due to fear of the gangster. The STF decided to utilise the land for police infrastructure development.

“Majority of these gangsters turn to crime for easy money which is eventually converted into property. Taking their property away would make them surrender. People seemed scared to bid and criminals think they could claim the property back. So, we decided to use this property for police welfare or social cause. Construction of four-room chowki has already started,” Rao said.

The chowki is reportedly being build using reward money claimed by the police team after catching notorious criminals.

It may be noted that Sube Singh alias Gujjar is a member of dreaded Kaushal gang. Gujjar who has a total reward of Rs 5 lakh announced by Gurugram and Rewari police is wanted in over a dozen murder cases besides numerous extortion and attempt to murder cases across the state.

The STF and Gurugram police have identified 75 such criminals out of which 10 are on priority whose property shall be attached and will be utilised for police welfare.
