Kurukshetra, July 21

The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rakesh Singh has awarded five-year imprisonment to a sub-divisional officer (SDO) of the electricity department in a graft case.

A fine of Rs10,000 has also been imposed on him. He has been identified as Ramjanam, posted as SDO in the Electricity Department in Kurukshetra. He had sought Rs5,000 from a clerk of his department.

As per information, Daljeet, a resident of Ismailabad, on September 8, 2016, had filed a complaint to the DSP, State Vigilance Bureau, Ambala, alleging that Ramjanam used to take bribe from people and pressure employees of the department to give money to him. He claimed that the SDO had been seeking Rs5,000 per month from him.

Acting on the complaint, a raiding party was constituted, which caught the SDO red-handed. — TNS
