Mahendragarh, January 8

Private schools affiliated to the CBSE have heaved a sigh of relief after the government cancelled the extended winter vacation for Classes IX to XII.

“The extension of winter vacation had left us high and dry as it came at a time when we were gearing up for practical examinations of 10th and 12th classes. The examinations are scheduled to start from January 15 and the conduct of the examination would have been impossible had the schools remained closed up to January 14,” said Krishan Choudhary, leader of Progressive Private School Owners’ Association in Narnaul.

Hailing the revised orders, Anil Kaushik, owner of Eureka Public School in Narnaul, said all private schools were finding themselves in a piquant situation. “On the one hand, we are bound to comply with the government’s orders while on the other hand, parents were pressurising us to open the school for preparation of the examinations,” Kaushik added.

Ashok Kumar, another school owner, said there was no logic to extend the vacation of above middle classes as the practical examinations were about to start. “The authorities should keep in mind all factors before announcing the vacation as it adversely affects the study,” he added.

Kaithal: The District Private Schools’ Association has strongly condemned and opposed the decision of the state government to enhance winter holidays up to January 14.

Talking to mediapersons here today, association president Jasmer Barsana said that the extension of winter vacation would have a negative impact on the study of students hence the government should not impose its decision.

Dr Vijay Kansal, chairman of the association, demanded that irrational and unreasonable taxes imposed on school buses and the provision of registration of criminal case against school management in case of any accident was unjustified and demanded its immediate withdrawal. General secretary Harpal Singh Keorak said that in lieu of extended holidays, the government should grant more time for board examinations. He said that the schools would not follow unreasonable directives of the government.

Break extended only for Classes I-VIII: Dept

Chandigarh: A day after Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma announced extension of the winter vacation till January 15, the Haryana Education Department on Monday modified the order and clarified that the winter vacations were extended only for Classes I to VIII up to January 12, whereas the teaching for Classes IX to XII would commence from January 9 and the time schedule for these classes would be from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm till January 12. While stating this here today, a spokesman for the department said that schools would remain closed on January 13 and 14 on account of second Saturday and Sunday, respectively, and would re-open on January 15. “All government, government-aided and private schools in the state have been directed to ensure compliance of these orders,” he added. Sources claimed that the decision to alter the order was taken in view of requests from a number of schools which had scheduled their pre-board examinations in their respective schools.
