Rewari, January 13
Though brass utensils are losing their lustre in Rewari district, which is also known as the ‘City of Brass’, its copper vessels are in demand for ‘Gangapujan’ at Ardh Kumbh scheduled to commence in Allahabad on January 15.
More than one lakh copper vessels have been supplied to Allahabad from Rewari in the past three months. Copper manufacturers are still hopeful for more orders in coming days. As per manufacturers, over 10 per cent increase in the supply of copper vessels has been witnessed this time as compared to the last fair.
“Past three months have gone well for all those associated with copper utensils business. They worked round the clock to meet the massive demand for vessels in Ardh Kumbh. A huge consignment weighing 15 tonnes and carrying items worth Rs 80 lakh has been supplied to Allahabad in three months,” said Rajender, a copper manufacturer.
He said there were around 100 shops of brass, steel and copper utensils in Rewari. These utensils are made at over 50 units being run by artisans. Earlier, the number of such units was much higher, but many artisans have shifted to other places, he said.
“Rewari is the only city in North India where maximum varieties of copper vessels are available. ‘Kumkuma’, ‘shikari’, ‘rajshahi’ and ‘ganga sagar’ varieties are in demand,” said Rajender.
