The controversy over giving out on lease of HUDA Gymkhana Club grounds to Billu Tent House has got murkier with local RTI activist Jain alleging a scam worth more than Rs 110 crore.

Having initially objected to giving out the grounds on lease for nine years without tendering, he alleged that HUDA charged him less rent, opting for losses worth crores.

“The department gave the HUDA Gymkhana Club grounds on rent for Rs 35 lakh per year for nine years. As per its own policy, the rent should have been 12.58 crore per annum. Officials concerned are hand in glove with Billu Tent House,” said Abhay Jain.

When contacted, HUDA chief for Gurugram Yashpal Yadav refuted the allegation, calling it an attempt to benefit a rival tent house.

“They have been creating a hue and cry by maligning the department. When the grounds were given on lease, none of the present officials were posted. A previous official ordered renewal of lease for nine years. Soon the lapse came to the fore. We cancelled the lease and ordered a review,” he said.
