Rs 4-lakh aid for dowry victim’s sons

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ambala, has awarded compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to two minor sons of a dowry death victim under the Haryana Victim Compensation Scheme, 2013.
Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM)-cum-Secretary, DLSA, Ambala, Danish Gupta, said, “A case was registered on December 27, 2015, at Barara police station against three people (in-laws of the deceased). The accused — Amit, Mandeep (Amit’s wife) and Sushil — were held guilty under Section 306 of the IPC (abetment of suicide) on July 21 by the court of Additional Sessions Judge Yashwinder Paul Singh.
The case was referred to DLSA and it has decided to provide Rs 4 lakh to the minor sons (Rs 2 lakh each) of the victim. The compensation will be given in the form of fixed deposit.
The CJM said, “The state government had enacted the Victim Compensation Scheme 2013 for providing financial help to the victim or dependents who suffered loss or injury as a result of the crime and require rehabilitation. The relief is provided if the family’s annual income is less than Rs 4.5 lakh.”
