Faridabad, September 18

Striking employees of the Faridabad Municipal Corporation (MC) today locked both the gates of the corporation headquarters in protest against the delay in the redressal of their demands.

The gates were, however, unlocked after about half an hour on the intervention of senior officials.

A spokesperson of the Municipal Employees’ Union, Haryana, said a tool-down strike had been on by workers for the last 11 days. They have been seeking withdrawal of the move to sack 300 drivers, helpers and sweepers by Eco-Green Company recently. The company has been given the contract of disposal of garbage and waste in the city by the MC. He said sacked employees had been staging a dharna against the non-deposition of their provident fund by the company. The protesters were removed from the company rolls about three weeks ago. He said the delay and failure on part of the authorities concerned made the protesters lock both the gates.

“The employees will meet the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment on Saturday to seek his intervention,” he said.
