Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Krishna Murari administered oath to newly appointed Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya at the Raj Bhawan here on Saturday.
While Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was present on the occasion, most of his Cabinet ministers were conspicuous by their absence. Barring Health Minister Anil Vij and Minister of State Nayab Saini, none of the ministers were present on the occasion.
Arya is the 17th Governor of Haryana and replaces Kaptan Singh Solanki who has been made the Governor of Tripura. He took his oath in Hindi. The newly appointed Governor personally met people who had come to attend the oath-taking ceremony and accepted their greetings.
Earlier, on reaching Chandigarh, Arya along with his wife was given a warm reception by the Chief Minister, his Cabinet colleagues, senior officers and staff of the Raj Bhawan, a spokesperson said.
Members of the Governor’s family, including his sons Omprakash Ranjan and Kaushal Kishore, daughters Sunanda and Kanchan Mala, and other relatives were also present on the occasion.
A senior BJP leader from Bihar, Arya was born at Gandhi Tola, Rajgir in Nalanda district of Bihar on July 1, 1939.
