Kurukshetra, October 18

The newly elected president of the Kurukshetra University Campus Student Council, Omkar Chauhan, has demanded that security should be beefed up in hostels to check activities of unruly elements.

“There is an apprehension that other student organisations will attack those who participated in the elections on Wednesday. Hostel inmates suspect that outsiders will create trouble. The KU administration should pay attention to it,” Chauhan, an ABVP leader, said on Thursday.

He further said his demand stemmed from the fact that students rejected the call for election boycott.

“The student council will raise the demand for the appointment of regular faculty in staff-crunched departments,” Chauhan, a law student, said.

Student council vice-president Namita Nandal, a microbiology student, demanded relaxation in the hostel timings for girls. “Girls’ hostels should be opened till 9 pm instead of 6.30 pm. Security arrangements on the campus are satisfactory,” she said.

She said the Wi-Fi connectivity on the campus, particularly in hostels, was a key problem faced by students. There is a complaint against food quality and the council members will work in coordination with students to raise legitimate matters, she added.

A leader of the Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) Priyanka Sehrawat, who has been elected the joint secretary, said mess charges and hygiene were problems placed before her.

Students’ Home

A KU spokesperson said the Kurukshetra University Campus Student Council would have its office named “Students’ Home”. He said several facilities would be provided in the office, which would open next week.
