Citing discrepancies in deposition of forensic samples and documentation of criminal cases, Shrikant Jadhav, Director, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Madhuban, took the initiative of barring investigation officers (IOs) from sending samples directly to FSL.

The samples and the documentation will be verified and sent by IOs through Scene of Crime Officers at each district headquarters.

Scene of Crime Officers from FSL have been deputed at district headquarters to make forensic aid prompt in criminal investigation.

The quality of samples would increase to a great extent with this step. That will further help FSL scientists in examining the samples smoothly in the minimum time. Directions have been sent to all the SPs and Scene of Crime Officers in this regard by the Director.

Director Jadhav said that the police had been doing their work with dedication, but as far as deposition of forensic samples was concerned, they took it in a casual manner sometimes. That led to waste of time of scientists as well as theirs.

Sometimes, documents related to samples remain incomplete at the time of deposition, leading to objections by FSL members.

The IO has to go back to the district concerned to remove the objections and has to travel long again to get it deposited at Madhuban, Jadhav maintained.

“To combat this problem, we have taken this initiative. Scene of crime officers will supervise district police in accurate completion of samples and documentation,” the Director said.
