Hundreds of residents of Sector 31, Gurugram, have been having a harried time for the past three weeks as smelly sewage water is strewn across the main sector gate.

A construction is under way on the road outside the main entry next to Jalvayu Vihar and workers have apparently damaged the sewerage line, causing dirty water to flood the entire service road. This has forced sector residents to take the alternate route from the second gate.

The residents claimed that they have repeatedly told civic authorities about the mess but no remedial step has been taken.

“Some road widening or repair work is on and they have damaged the pipeline. They say talk to the MCG. MCG officials claim they would repair it, but it has been a long time and the stink is killing us. We have to drive across the entire sector to reach the road despite this gate being a few metres away,” said Suresh Yadav, a local resident.

The residents claim that the contaminated water is a perfect breeding spot for mosquitoes and fear it could also contaminate their drinking water supply.
