The Haryana Sahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) has initiated a move to recover the pending amount of Rs 460 crore as enhancement cost from thousands of plot owners in the district. A rebate of 40 per cent has been offered in case the payment is made in a single instalment till July 14.

With the authorities claiming that the enhancement cost had been pending since the allotment of plots in 2005, it is revealed that nearly 7,000 plot owners in the district have to pay this cost. The cost was calculated by the HSVP after a legal battle went in favour of farmers whose land had been acquired in 2005.

Sources said the department had issued notices to recover the pending amount as per the order of the High Court.

Officials said that the total pending amount in the state was Rs 21,000 crore from nearly 1.5 lakh plot owners.

The notices have been served on plot owners of residential sectors of 8, 46, 48, 21-C (part-3), 85, 87 and Industrial sectors of 55, 56, and 56-A. The average enhancement cost for a 100 sq yard plot comes to Rs 2 lakh, it is revealed.

Opposing the move, Bhim Singh, president, district unit of the Haryana State HUDA Sectors’ Confederation, said it was wrong to put the entire burden on the allottees after several years of allotment. Charging of 15 per cent interest was another blow and it had made the residents to raise a banner of protest, he added.

Admitting that notices had been served to recover the pending amount of Rs 460 crore in the district, Amardeep Jain, Estate Officer, HSVP, said that a total amount of Rs 40 crore had been recovered of which Rs 16 crore had been waived as rebate so far.
