Chandigarh, July 30
The state Government on Tuesday issued orders to revise the house rent allowance (HRA) for its eligible employees with effect from August 1, 2019, as per the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission.
Employees posted in towns having population of 50 lakh and above (X category) will get 24 per cent HRA subject to a minimum of Rs5.400. Those posted in cities with population between 5 lakh and 50 lakh (Y category) will get 16 per cent HRA subject to a minimum of Rs3,600.
Employees working in cities with population less than 5 lakh (Z category) will be entitled to 8 per cent HRA subject to a minimum of Rs1,800.
Finance Minister Capt Abhimanyu said the employees would be given the enhanced HRA according to the population of the city of their posting as per the 2011 Census.
The state government’s decision will benefit more than three lakh employees with additional burden of Rs1,920 crore per annum on the state exchequer. — TNS
