State shifts BJP candidate’s IPS husband

CHANDIGARH: The state government has transferred IPS officer Rajesh Duggal, Commandant, 3rd Battalion, Haryana Armed Police (HAP), Hisar, as SP, Special Task Force, Bhondsi, Gurugram. He is the husband of Sunita Duggal, BJP’s candidate from Sirsa. The state Congress had submitted a complaint to the EC against Rajesh Duggal, accusing him of misusing his power. The complaint had stated that several subordinate police officers from the 3rd Battalion, HAP, and other places, where Duggal was previously posted, accompanied Sunita in civil dresses and tried to influence voters. The EC had directed the state government to shift him outside the Hisar and Sirsa parliamentary constituencies. TNS

Praja Parivartan Party to back Cong 

Rohtak: The Praja Parivartan Party on Wednesday announced support to the Congress in the General Election. Addressing a press conference, state party president Kanta Aalharia said they were backing the Congress to ensure the defeat of the BJP as its government in the state had worked against every section of society. She held the BJP responsible for arson and violence during the Jat quota stir in February 2016. TNS

Consider Chautala’s parole plea: HC

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the government to consider, within a week, former Haryana Chief Minister OP Chautala’s plea seeking parole. Justice AK Chawla asked the government to communicate its decision to him immediately thereafter. The court was hearing Chautala’s plea seeking parole for three months as his wife is critically ill and admitted to hospital. Chautala’s counsel N Hariharan and lawyer Amit Sahni told the court that as per the Parole and Furlough Guidelines of the Delhi Prison Rules, a convict is entitled to avail parole twice a year for eight weeks and as Chautala has not availed parole for more than a year, he is entitled to do so now. Chautala and his elder son Ajay were convicted in the JBT recruitment scam in January 2013. IANS

Body found in water tank

Narnaul: The body of a private contractor was on Wednesday recovered from a water tank of the Public Health Engineering Department in Nasibpur village. The contractor, identified as Jai Prakash Verma, used to execute works of the Public Health Engineering Department on contract. The police recovered a suicide note from his house, wherein he held some persons responsible for taking the extreme step. He went missing on Tuesday. TNS

Rs 21-crore seizures since March 10: DGP 

Chandigarh: The DGP, Manoj Yadava, on Wednesday said unaccounted cash, illicit liquor, drugs and other valuables worth more than Rs 21.07 crore had been seized since the election model code of conduct came into effect. “On an average, items worth Rs 36.5 lakh are seized every day. More than 3.73 lakh litres of liquor worth over Rs 6.05 crore were seized between March 10 and May 7. The seizure of drugs till May 7 were worth over Rs 9.34 crore,” he added. TNS
