State to recruit 700 doctors, paramedics

The Haryana Government will soon recruit nearly 700 doctors and paramedical staffers to strengthen the health facilities in the state. The state government is also focusing on improving the functioning of the local PGIMS.

The process to appoint a regular PGIMS director and the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Vice Chancellor is already in progress and the posts of resident doctors and other paramedical staff are also being filled.

Stating this while talking to reporters here today, Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Ram Niwas said a committee comprising eminent medical professionals would be constituted soon to prepare a roadmap for the overall betterment of the PGIMS.

“There is plenty of scope for improvement in various areas at the institute. The state government will take effective steps in this direction after the committee submits its recommendations,” he maintained, adding the directors of AIIMS, PGIMER (Chandigarh), Tata Memorial Cancer Institute and former AIIMS professor Dr MK Bhan were being requested to join the panel.

Ram Niwas also inquired the matter of the alleged lapses in the provision of treatment/protocol to former Chief Minister Hukam Singh. He questioned PGIMS Medical Superintendent Dr Ashok Chauhan and an aide of the late CM in this connection.

Three inquiries have already been conducted in the matter and the state government has decided to chargesheet former officiating director of PGIMS Dr Rohtas Yadav and senior professor Dr Dhruva Chaudhry.

The Additional Chief Secretary also chaired a meeting of the key functionaries of the institute and discussed several issues pertaining to the PGIMS with them.

The HCMS doctors who have recently been posted to the PGIMS also met the ACS and conveyed their concerns to him, which he assured to address.
