Stubble burning on rise, 197 spots detected

Stubble burning incidents continue to rise with 197 active fire locations (AFLs) being detected in the state on Sunday, a majority of were in Karnal and Kurukshetra.
Active agriculture fire spots captured by Bhuvan-Geo platform of the ISRO revealed that 69 AFLs were detected in Karnal and 51 in Kurukshetra district.
The data revealed that incidents of crop fire were increasing in Kaithal, Jind, Faridabad, Fatehabad, Ambala and Yamunanagar. A total of 25 AFLs were detected in Kaithal and 16 in Jind.
Officials of HARSAC and district administration did not provide any official data about fire spots and challans issued to farmers in Hisar.
During the 2016 kharif season, 12,862 AFLs were identified, followed by 12,417 during the 2017 kharif season. There was a marginal fall of about 3.4 per cent in crop residue fire locations compared to 2016.
Previous data showed that district-wise highest crop fire locations had been observed in Fatehabad, Sirsa, Karnal and Kaithal districts during the previous years.
