Karnal, July 4
Demanding equality of cadre at par with other states and setting up of latest infrastructure to implement the Goods and Services Tax (GST), officials under the banner of Haryana Excise and Taxation Officers Association today went on an indefinite strike. They staged a dharna at the office. With their move, the traders who came there to get themselves enrolled for the GST had to face difficulties.
They alleged that the Union government had implemented one nation, one tax, but there was a huge disparity in the cadre of officers posted in Haryana and other states to implement this Act.
Ashwini Narang, Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO), Karnal, said in other states like Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, ETOs have been designated as Assistant Commissioner of Excise and Taxation to deal with the GST, while in Haryana the ETOs have not been designated with the post of Assistant Commissioner. To remove this disparity, all officials of the department went on an indefinite strike, he said. They would not lift their protest till their demands were met, he maintained.
