Rewari, October 13
Euro International School has terminated the services of a teacher after a video showing him beating a student with a shoe and slapping another went viral on social media. The school management clarified that it reported the matter to the District Education authorities as soon as it came to its notice. It said parents have refused to approach the police in the matter.
The incident took place between October 1 and 3, when a team of 13 students of the school went to Murthal, Sonepat, to participate in a kho-kho championship organised by the CBSE. The teacher, Ajit Singh, was the team in charge. He is a retired Army man and was working as a discipline assistant in the school for the past one year. He also looked after sports activities in the school, said Ish Dhingra, principal.
He said the team and the teacher returned to Rewari on October 4, but neither the teacher, nor the students intimated him about the incident. The students did not even tell their parents, he added.
“I immediately called a meeting of the discipline committee when the matter came to my notice on October 9. The committee served a show-cause notice on the teacher after questioning him about the incident. All 13 students were called to the meeting to get accurate information about the incident,” said Dhingra, maintaining that a report in this regard was also prepared and sent to the district education officer (DEO).
He said the parents of the students were called to the school next day, but they refused to lodge a police complaint. However, the school assured them of all help if they approached the police, he added.
