Tending to injured animals, birds

Sirsa: A puppy with infected skin or a baby horse with maggots infested wound could be loathsome for many, but not for this group of 15 youths from Sirsa, who love to provide them shelter and treat their ailments. Jaspal Singh, Vasudha, Abhirag, Yogesh, Jigar, Shiva, Naveen and others, all students from Sirsa, have floated an NGO 'Animals and Birds Welfare Society' to tend to injured and forsaken birds and animals. Dr Anu Shukla, a professor of English at Chaudhary Devi Lal University in Sirsa, is providing financial and moral support to the team. In their shelter home at New Housing Board Colony, Badal, a baby horse and Basanti, a baby mare, are being treated for their injuries. Not only this, Preeti, a scabies infected bitch, and two little dogs are also being taken care of. "We want our branches to be set up in other districts of the state. We also want stray dogs to be sterilized, so that their population can be checked and they get the respect they deserve," says Jaspal, president of the NGO.

No to police station

Sonepat: Residents of Bahalgarh village in the district have opposed the plan to open a new police station in the building of the village community centre. While organising a protest against this move, residents Rohtas, Sahib Singh, Balbir, Rajesh Kaushik and others explained that there was no landed or any other property except the community centre with the gram panchayat for using as a common place to organise social or other community programmes, including marriages. However, BJP leader Mohan Lal Badoli met the protesting villagers and assured them that he would take it up with the government and administration.

Steel plates over disposable ones

Palwal: In a unique development, the panchayat at Asawati village in the district has decided to use only steel utensils for serving food during mass gatherings such as 'Bhandaras', marriages and similar get-togethers in the village. The panchayat has bought steel utensils worth Rs 50,000 for the purpose and has kept these at a common place, from where anyone could requisition it. "No charge will be taken from any resident for the use of these utensils," says Karan Singh, sarpanch. He said use of plastic and disposable paper plates do not only cause pollution, but are unsafe for health as per experts.

'Justice for all'

Palwal: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has flagged off a mobile van to tour rural parts in the district to create and spread awareness over the legal rights and the facilities for free consultation and services provided by the DLSA to the poor or those who can't afford private fee in any type of legal case. According to Ashok Kumar Verma, District and Sessions Judge, Palwal, the aim was to raise awareness about the legal rights of senior citizens, women, children, physically challenged and labourers. He said the van will remain in field till August 30 with the slogan of 'Nyay Sabke Liye' (Justice for All).

'Best Workshop Shield' 

Yamunanagar: Carriage and Wagon Workshop, Jagadhri, was awarded with the 'Best Workshop Rolling Stock Shield' during the 64th annual railway national award function 2019 organised at Jamshedji Bhabha Theatre NCPA, Mumbai, recently. The shield was presented to TP Singh, general manager of Northern Railway; Arun Arora, principal chief mechanical engineer and RK Sangar, chief workshop manager (CWM), Jagadhri Workshop. CWM, RK Sangar said this shield was presented to mark excellent performances of this workshop. He said they would keep continuing to work efficiently and sincerely to give their best. "I share the credit with all officers' in-charge, supervisors, unions and associations and the employees of Jagadhri Workshop," said Sangar.

Pay (dis)parity in Haryana Police

Hisar: The Haryana Police Sangathan, an organisation of retired persons, demanded pay parity of the Haryana Police personnel with their Punjab counterparts. In a meeting chaired by state president Mahender Singh Shyahdwa, the HPS urged the state government to consider their demand, which had been taken up with the government through a number of memorandums submitted to the authorities. Shyahdwa said there was resentment among the employees on the issue as the Chandigarh and Himachal Governments, too, were giving the pay equivalent to the Punjab Government. The Sangathan raised the demands of one-rank-one-pension benefit to the police personnel, Rs 3,000 per month medical allowance, 10 per cent quota for children of police personnel in recruitment in police force and to increase the number of hospitals on panel for cashless health services

Sports meet at Panipat refinery

Panipat: A three-day annual employees' athletic sports meet-2019 was organised at Panipat Refinery and Petrochemical Complex (PRPC). The event started on Friday and concluded on Sunday. The meet commenced with a mini-marathon, in which employees and their spouses participated. Sanjaya Bhatnagar, executive director-PRPC, flagged off the mini-marathon. Various events including races, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw, slow cycling fun games such as lemon spoon race and needle thread were organised. GC Sikder, CGM; AP Sharma, CGM (Finance) and other senior officials were present during the sports meet.

‘Ragging is not cool’

Kaithal: CJM-cum-secretary DLSA, Kaithal, Taranjeet Kaur addressed students of Babu Anant Ram Janta College at Kaul village during an anti-ragging drive and legal literacy camp. She said ragging was a crime and asked students to resist any attempt of ragging by seniors and inform teachers. She also spoke on the topic of water conservation and for the preservation of environment and making it pollution free. She said those having income below Rs 3 lakh per year were entitled to free legal aid and can contact Alternative Disputes Redressal (ADR) Centre or at telephone no. 01746-235759 to seek any help relating to any legal issue.
