Kurukshetra, August 20

At least three persons were killed when two trucks and a car collided on the NH-44 near Umri Chowk on late Monday evening.

Sources said five persons were rushed to various hospitals with multiple injuries.

SP Surinder Pal Singh said a cow was also spotted dead on the spot leading to a suspicion that the car bearing the registration number of Ambala hit the stray animal. Later, two trucks also collided causing a major blast, the SP said.

He said drivers of both trucks were charred to death, whereas the occupant of the car died on the spot.

Eyewitnesses said one of the trucks involved in the mishap was laden with liquor cases that helped the fire to spread.

The accident took place on the elevated stretch and the vehicles were going towards Ambala.

Meanwhile, the accident led to a massive traffic jam. Led by the local SP, a contingent of the police personnel was deployed to regulate traffic.

The SP said identities of the deceased and the injured were being verified.
