Topographical survey begins for detailed mapping of Karnal

The Karnal Smart City Ltd (KSCL), the company looking after the smart city project, has started a topographical survey with the help of latest digital geographical positioning systems for a detailed mapping of the city.

The survey is being done in the area of around 3 sq km identified under the area-based development plan. A Mohali-based company ATCON started the survey in the middle of August and it is expected that the company will complete it by the end of October.

“We have assigned the project to ATCON, which has started the topographical survey. It is expected that the company will provide us the complete mapping of the area by the end of October so that we can come up with better planning for identified projects under the smart city mission,” said Rajiv Mehta, CEO, KSCL.

“The survey will help us in designing all infrastructural plans which will be completed under the project like development of Mughal Canal-phase two and three, redevelopment of old vegetable market along with basement parking and commercial complexes, redevelopment of the site of the old building of the Karnal Municipal Corporation, redevelopment and beautification of chowks and intersections, beautification and redevelopment of three roads, including Meerut Road, Novelty Road, and road from Namastey Chowk to Maharana Partap Chowk,” the CEO added.

He said the aim of the mission was to create pedestrian-friendly roads and streets within urban areas. “For this project, we have earmarked the Novelty road which will be pedestrian and specially-abled friendly,” Mehta said.

“We will have the measurement of the earmarked sites, which will help in better planning. The existing bus stand will also be shifted from the city to the Baldi bypass. Under the project, we will develop a plaza at the site of the existing bus stand,” he added.
