Acting on a complaint, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has stalled the reported non-forest activity and construction of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) campus in Mandawar village near Sohna till January 2020.
The panchayat of Mandawar village had sold 260 acres to CISF without the permission of the Ministry of Environment.
The NGT has issued notices to the Forest Department, director general of CISF and other departments concerned and asked for a report from the Chief Conservator of Forests within a month. The next hearing will be on January 29. Until then, this prohibition will remain in effect.
While the CISF was demanding 322 acres, the gram panchayat of Mandawar village sold 260 acres for the training centre.
The land is in the conservation area of the Aravallis where as per the NGT and order of the Supreme Court, non-forest activities are banned. Villager Ram Avtar filed a petition with the NGT to stop work and tree cutting in the area. Taking cognisance of his complaint, NGT stopped non-forestry activities on CISF land.
