Karnal, October 18
A couple, in their 30s, was killed when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle near Slaru village on the Indri road in the district this morning. The deceased have been identified as Sandeep and his wife Sushma, residents of Bibipur Jatan village in the district. The truck driver managed to escape after the accident, leaving the vehicle behind. The police have booked him for negligent driving.
According to the police, the couple was going toward Karnal for Diwali shopping when they had a head-on collision with the truck near Slaru village. Sushma fell aside while the truck ran over her husband and dragged him to some distance, killing them instantly. Sushma was a teacher while her husband worked at a chemist shop.
Woman dies in accident
Yamunanagar: A woman was killed when she was hit by a truck near Madhu Chowk here Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Kiran of Rampura Colony in Yamunanagar.
Kiran was going on foot to offer prayers at a temple nearby around 6 am. When she reached the main road, she was hit by a speeding overload truck. She died on the spot.
Senior Deputy Mayor Pawan Kumar helped the police in taking the body to the civil hospital. The body was handed over to her kin after a postmortem.
Bittu said overloaded vehicles had taken several lives in the district. The MC had talked to the DC and SP several times to keep a tab on overloaded vehicles, but in vain, he added.
