Karnal, June 13
Two and a half years after Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced construction of a park at Pritam Nagar in place of a garbage dumping place, the project remains on paper. He had made the announcement in January 2017.
Residents of Pritam Nagar, Moti Nagar, and Shyam Nagar are still waiting for the park and have approached various authorities, including the CM and the mayor, with their demand.
As per the authorities, the project is hanging in fire over the issue of demarcation.
Sources claim the Revenue Department had conducted a demarcation, which, according to residents, was wrong, following which they have been demanding fresh demarcation. Ashok Kumar Bajaj, a resident of Pritam Nagar, said more than 12,000 people were living in three colonies — Pritam Nagar, Moti Nagar, and Shyam Nagar — and they do not have any park in the vicinity for recreational activities.
“The Revenue Department conducted demarcation, but it was not accurate, following which we approached the Karnal Municipal Corporation,” said Parveen Kumar, another resident. He alleged several people had encroached upon the land earmarked for the park due to non-seriousness of officials.
Renu Bala Gupta, mayor, said it was a CM’s announcement and they had been working on it. “We have asked the Revenue Department to conduct fresh demarcation, so that work on the project could be started,” she said.
Raj Baksh Arora, tehsildar, said they had conducted demarcation and if any request for fresh demarcation was received, it would be done soon.
