Electricity bills currently issued by the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) levied a whole lot of charges even on domestic consumers. To illustrate, they have to pay energy charges (based on the respective electricity consumption) apart from fuel surcharge adjustment, meter service charges, electricity duty and municipal tax. However, one fails to find any rationale behind imposing fuel surcharge adjustment charges and electricity duty on successive basis. Why levy meter service charges more so when a consumer has to bear the cost of these meters in the first stage itself? What 'extra service' the UHBVN presently provides to them? Moreover, in case of any damage, either by burning or otherwise, to these meters, one has to pay for the replacement thereof. In all fairness, the SAC, electricity duty and the meter service charges should be reasonably, justifiably yet immediately withdrawn for some obvious reasons. Let UHBVN come clear on the matter. — SK Gupta, Panchkula
Simian menace in Narwana
Residents of Narwana are facing several problems, including stray cattle menace, dangling electricity wires and garbage littered all around, but monkey menace is one serious menace that has hit them hard. In the morning, when one gets up to even open the gate, one comes face to face with monkeys who are ready to pounce on you, if caught unawares. Parents have to accompany children till their bus and in the evening, kids are too scared to play out in the open. Monkeys tear away clothes which are hung outside for drying. Sometimes it becomes really unbearable.

Bovines all the way
The local authorities, it seems, are not bothered about stray cattle wandering openly on roads and streets. Garbage is littered along roadsides near the ITI, Yamunanagar, emanating foul smell, which causes inconvenience to people passing by. The local authorities should take appropriate steps to resolve this problem.

Hanging wires pose threat
Electricity wires in the middle of the road pose threat to several lives in Badshapur. A wire was so low in the market place that it touched people passing underneath. An accident in imminent. Perhaps, the authorities concerned are least bothered about the safety of common people. So, it is requested to get the wiring fitted again in a proper manner before any mishap occurs. — Subhash C Taneja, Gurugram
