A team of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) was attacked at Lathron village in Nilokheri block here this morning after it detected power thefts. Villagers thrashed the team members and damaged their government vehicle.
Following the incident, the Power Employees Association held a protest and demanded stringent action against the assailants. Besides, they filed a complaint with the Butana police for the registration of a case.
According to information, the team led by junior engineers (JEs) Sunil Kumar and Prabhu Nath reached Lathron village and detected power theft at two houses around 6.15 am today. Meanwhile, a group of villagers comprising women manhandled them.
AK Raheja, Superintending Engineer, UHBVN, said the villagers also damaged the government vehicle of the team. Somehow, they managed to escape from the village and reported the matter to other officials as well as the police. “The SDO, Nilokheri, has filed a compliant with the police,” he added. The Butana police said a case has been registered against Jaswant, Jasmer and other villagers under Sections 148, 149, 186, 332, 353, 341, 427 and 506 of the IPC.
Rajesh Verma, secretary of the employees association, said all accused should be arrested at the earliest.
