Woman raped on pretext of marriage

A man from UP has been booked on the charge of raping a woman on the pretext of marrying her. She gave birth to a girl because of alleged rape.

The victim, a native of Yamunanagar, is already married and has filed for divorce on the asking of the accused, identified as Gokul Batra of Nakud town in UP’s Saharanpur district.

“Now, he has refused to marry me,” she said in her police complaint.

The police on Saturday registered a zero FIR against the accused under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC. The police have sent a copy of the FIR to the Nakud police station for further action.

The victim, in her complaint, said she had married Sandeep of Nakud in 2015. “In 2017, Batra had offered to befriend me. But I had refused. One day, he had threatened to commit suicide if I didn’t accept his offer. Afraid, I gave in,” the victim alleged.

She alleged Batra had been raping her since December 2017 on the pretext of marrying her. — TNS
